See and feel your finishes in your own home before your custom furniture is created.
Color, wood grain, texture and sheen can look very different on a screen than they do in natural light. For custom Birds & Gardens commissions, I offer a physical Custom Finish Sample Set so you can review the proposed finishes alongside your walls, fabrics, flooring, wallpaper and other furnishings before your piece goes into production.
Each set is prepared specifically for your project and includes two handcrafted real-wood samples:
Painted Body Finish Sample
Approx. 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm)
A real wood sample finished with the proposed paint color, decorative treatment or patina, edge treatment and protective topcoat planned for the painted body of your furniture.
Tabletop Wood & Finish Sample
Approx. 5 × 6 in (13 × 15 cm)
A larger real-wood sample showing the proposed tabletop wood, grain, stain or color, sheen and protective finish.
Sample thickness is approximately ½–¾ in (12–19 mm), depending on the materials being used for your individual project.
These are not factory color chips. Each sample is prepared by hand in my studio using the materials and finishing process planned for your Birds & Gardens piece.
How it works
1. Please contact me before purchasing so we can discuss your furniture project, colors and desired finishes.
2. I create your two custom finish samples by hand.
3. You review them in your home, in natural and artificial light, and alongside your existing décor.
4. Once the finishes are approved, I use the approved finish direction when creating your commissioned furniture.
The $85 purchase price of this sample set will be fully credited toward your Birds & Gardens furniture order.
Please note
Because wood is a natural material and every Birds & Gardens piece is finished by hand, variations in grain, tone and hand-applied finish are part of the character of the finished furniture.
Your samples establish the approved color, wood tone, texture, sheen and overall finish direction rather than serving as an exact factory match.
If a completely new finish direction is requested after the original samples have been prepared, an additional sample set may be required.
This listing is intended for clients considering or preparing a custom Birds & Gardens furniture commission.

Yes. Most made-to-order tables can be customized in size, palette, imagery, and decorative details. Before purchasing, send me your space dimensions, room photos, and inspiration. I’ll confirm what is possible, along with the price and estimated timeline, in writing.
The dimensions shown in each listing are the finished outside dimensions. For made-to-order pieces, I can often adjust width, height, or depth to suit a narrow hallway or a specific wall. Please measure the available space, including baseboards, door swing, and walking clearance, before ordering.
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe spills promptly with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid abrasive or chemical cleaners, furniture polish, standing moisture, direct heat, and prolonged strong sunlight. Use coasters or pads beneath wet, hot, or sharp objects.
In Stock pieces are completed, one of a kind, and ready to ship. Made to Order pieces are created after purchase; listing photos show the design and character, while each handmade table will have natural individual variations. The estimated production and delivery window appears in each listing.
Yes. Furniture is professionally packed and ships fully assembled, so no assembly is required. Tracking is provided when your order is dispatched. If a package arrives with visible damage, photograph the box, packing materials, and item before discarding anything, then contact me through Etsy as soon as possible.
First, we discuss your space, dimensions, palette, and story. After the design and price are confirmed, you place the order and I begin building and painting your piece. I share progress updates and final photographs before shipment. Approved changes after work begins may affect the price or timeline.
